This is a maintenance release that fixes a serious security-related bug and several minor bugs present in Fedora 2.2.2. The release also includes minor improvements, as outlined below.

  1. Security Bug Fix

The Fedora development team has discovered a serious security flaw in Fedora 2.2.2 and below. If exploited, this bug could allow unauthorized reading and writing of files on the server hosting your Fedora instance.

Although we are not aware of any malicious exploits of the vulnerability at this time, we strongly recommend all users of Fedora 2 to upgrade to version 2.2.3 as soon as possible.

Please see the migration guide for instructions on upgrading to Fedora 2.2.3.

  2. Minor Bug Fixes

The following minor bugs have also been fixed in this release.

  3. Additional Improvements

    • License changed to Apache 2
As with Fedora 3.0, version 2.2.3 is now licensed under Apache 2.

    • Java 6 Compatibility
Prior versions of Fedora would run with Java 1.5 or 1.6, but compiling was restricted to JDK 1.5. Now Fedora can be compiled with JDK 1.6 as well.

    • Basic Performance Test Suite
In order to support basic performance testing with various environments and configurations, a suite of tests has been included as part of the distribution. These tests can be executed from the source distribution by running "ant performance-tests". Further information can be found in the readme.txt file in the source distribution.

  4. Known Issues

Please see the Fedora Commons Bug Tracker for an up-to-date list of outstanding bugs.

  5. Installation
