The aim of the project is to identify, test and develop software or solutions to support best practice institutional digital repositories. About 4,000 regional students live and study at the University of Prince Edward Island. For over five years UPEI has been developing digitization projects that included a Dspace repository housing historical issues of the University’s historic Red and White student newspaper that has since been migrated to a Fedora Repository. University Librarian Mark Leggott coordinates Fedora development. An in-house and sub-contracted team is implementing a suite of Fedora-based systems that include a distributable Virtual Research Environment (VRE) for scientists, and new tools that highlight library and cultural holdings for students and alumni.
